Workshop Overview

Through these two sessions, we will get to know each other and the college while we explore aspects of the Education Major that may not be obvious at first glance at the college website. This workshop is not meant to add to your already stressful first year at Queens College–rather, it’s meant to serve as a place to meet fellow students, explore the school’s resources, consider innovative educational practices, and begin thinking about your future careers. You won’t have any out-of-class assignments; rather, we’ll spend our time discussing and sharing ideas and experiences with our peers. As a final project, we will co-create a conceptual syllabus as a group: a document of this workshop that provides resources for your future as an Education major as well as resources for anyone who may need them in the future.

Workshop one

The first workshop will present an overview of CUNY’s history, specifically as groundbreaking for public education. Students will gain insight into the requirements of Queens College’s Education Department.

WORKSHOP TWO

Participants will explore innovative teaching and learning practices. The workshop will include activities for all to consider the benefits and shortcomings of these developing approaches. Students will break into groups to design their interactive syllabus.
