First-Year Experience (FYE) Explores

The FYE Explores program is an excellent opportunity for students to explore diverse academic fields that could influence their career or major choices. Experienced staff and faculty members facilitate the program, and peer mentors provide personalized support. Engaging in projects like building a city with data or creating a podcast is just one example of how students can participate in the program. FYE Explores fosters a community for students with shared interests. Students are invited to visit FYE’s office located in Honors Hall Room 5 and contact staff at fye@qc.cuny.edu.

FYE Explores’ Teaching Education Workshops

The Education Workshops hope to support incoming college students in their transition to higher education. These workshops are open to all students. However, the series focuses on Queens College School of Education. Students will engage in activities and learn about CUNY’s history, new teaching techniques, the requirements of QC’s Education department, and possibilities post-graduation.

The workshops and this website are designed to provide insight, inspire first-year students, and foster success.

SUPPORT FROM PEER MENTORS

First-Year Experience pairs students with peer mentors, who are experienced upperclassmen. Students can schedule office hours to receive support in time management, study skills, and navigating different majors. Peer mentors can help students with any questions about transitioning from high school to college, including how to choose a major, pick classes that fit their interests, and adjust to the workload at Queens College.
